Quantitative Reasoning at GeorgeCounts

Just a quick note to share a new project that I've been working on over at GeorgeCounts.com. I've attempted to showcase aspects of quantitative reasoning & literacy along with a twist of visualizations to help illustrate ways in which current events in our society can better be understood through a quantitative lens. Common Core State Standards in Mathematics

Since the development of a voluntary set of national standards in mathematics there have been several resources that have emerged to help those working with mathematics curriculum to consider the implementation and implications of the CCSS in mathematics.

• The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has developed a PowerPoint to inform teachers and to support them in implementation of the Common Core Standards.
• The Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum has uploaded a summary report of a meeting held in early August to 1) provide guidance on future mathematics materials development efforts, K-12; and 2) address issues of curriculum design and production that arise in an environment of Common Core State Standards.

Michigan Math Teaching Fellowship

Interested in a teaching career specializing in math, science, or technology in Michigan? If so, check out the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship that begins during the summer of 2011. Recipients work with both universities and public schools prior to first employment, earn a masters degree, receive great mentoring, and benefit from a $30,000 stipend.
